Isabella Bautista was a Mexican socialite and drug trafficker with connections to several drug traffickers, including Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Juan Matta-Ballesteros and Alberto Sicilia Falcon.

Born to an influential family in Sinaloa, Mexico; Bautista met Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo when he worked as her uncles's bodyguard. Later, Félix Gallardo used Bautista's influence to set up deals with Sicilia Falcon and Matta, but rejected all of her sexual advances and refused to give her a position within his drug cartel. After Félix's escape following the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena Salazar, Bautista began to influence Benjamin Arellano Felix and convened a meeting to redistribute territory of the Guadalajara cartel. However, Félix Gallardo returned with military backing, and removed her from the meeting.

In January 1986, Bautista met Colombian drug lord Orlando Henao Montoya and they both agreed upon a partnership for drug trafficking, undercutting Félix Gallardo and the Cali cartel. With 200 kilograms of cocaine in her hands, she looked for drug traffickers to partner with. She approached Benjamin, who denied fearing backlash from Félix Gallardo. She later approached Benjamin's sister Enedina for help, but she too turned her down. She then formed an alliance with debt ridden Tijuana-based smuggler Nieves, but Enedina's men break apart their meeting and detain Isabella. Enedina agreed to partnership in which she would call the shots. The two woman began trafficking cocaine into the United States using female Mexican migrant workers as drug mules. Their operation proved to be successful, and the women later travel to the Colombian jungles and order more cocaine from Henao.

Enedina offers Isabella a generous amount to leave Tijuana.

However despite their operation's fruitful success, Enedina decides to side with her brothers after the formation of the Tijuana cartel, and offered Isabella six million pesos to leave Tijuana. Isabella refused, and decide to smuggle cocaine on her own, prompting Enedina to send corrupt police officers to arrest her.
